Message from the Superintendent
On May 6, 2025, our community will have the opportunity to renew the Westview School Corporation’s referendum—a decision that will directly impact the future of our schools, students, and community. This renewal is critical for ensuring that our schools continue to provide the exceptional education that Westview is known for, while addressing ongoing shortfalls in state and federal funding.
Westview is incredibly grateful for the 2017 referendum voter support. We had a tremendous Westview voter turnout in 2017 and the referendum had a 92% approval rate. Thank you for putting Westview at the center of our community’s high expectations. We take the commitment to excellence seriously and we look forward to your ongoing support.
Unfortunately, state tuition support has not kept pace with inflation, and federal funding continues to decline. Without this referendum renewal, we risk losing key programs, valued staff, and educational opportunities that are the cornerstone of our students’ success. The referendum renewal will allow us to:
Maintain Educational Excellence that helps every student thrive towards college and career readiness.
Protect Critical Programs in agriculture, fine arts, career and technical education, and college preparation.
Support Small Class Sizes that foster personalized attention and learning.
Cover Funding Shortfalls from decreased federal funding and inadequate state tuition for public education.
Importantly, this is NOT a new tax. The referendum renewal, if passed by the community, will maintain the current referendum tax rate of 29.4 cents per $100 of assessed property value (supported by the community in 2017), keeping our overall tax rate consistent at $0.75 per $100 of assessed value. In 2024, Westview’s consistent $0.75 local tax rate was 42nd lowest out of 290 public schools in the State of Indiana.
We remain committed to transparency and fiscal responsibility. Over the years, we’ve implemented cost-saving measures such as utility efficiencies and renegotiated interest rates to stretch every dollar. Despite these efforts, external funding gaps persist, making this referendum renewal essential.
This decision goes beyond dollars and cents. It’s about preserving the values that make Westview a wonderful place to live and learn. It’s about supporting our students, safeguarding our schools, and ensuring a bright future for our community.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about this important decision. Together, we can continue to invest in our children, our schools, and our shared future.
Sincerely
Dr. Randall Miller
