On behalf of the Westview School Corporation, we would like to congratulate former Westview athletic director, Mrs. Darlene Mathew, for being awarded the 2022 Indiana Fever Silver Medal at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Award dinner on Saturday.
Mrs. Mathew had a 46-year career as teacher, coach and athletic director at Westview Jr/Sr High School. She became the Westview girls athletic director in 1980 and athletic director for all Westview sports in 1989, serving in that role for 32 years. In her tenure as athletic director, Westview teams won 95 sectionals, 24 regionals, 8 semi-states, 2 boys basketball state championships (1999 and 2000), girls basketball state runner-up (2006), boys basketball state runner-up (2014), nine girls individual state champions in track and cross-country and four boys individual state champions in track and cross-country.
She was a member of the IHSAA Girls Advisory Committee, past President of the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association, a member of the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Committee.
Thank you, Darlene, for 46 years of selfless leadership in serving Westview student-athletes. You have influenced many generations and set an example to be followed by many.
