FIRST STAFF DAY OF THE 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR IS IN THE BOOKS!
Today, we welcomed our amazing Westview staff back for a day filled with information, inspiration, laughter, dancing, connection, and plenty of spirit!
Our morning included several informational speakers, a message from Dr. Jaime Carroll about the exciting future of Westview and our upcoming strategic planning work, and a hilarious game-show skit from our incredible school nurses!
We ended our time together with a dynamic and inspiring keynote from Kim Strobel, who shared a powerful message about the importance of happiness in both our personal and professional lives. One message that resonated with our staff was: “We have to show up for ourselves before we can show up for others.” What an important reminder as we begin a new year of caring for, encouraging, and inspiring our students, and one another.
There was so much energy in the room today, and one thing was clear, our people are what make Westview such a special place. We are excited, we are ready, and we cannot wait to see what this year holds for our students, staff, families, and community!

Transportation Info Needed! As we start working on routes for the 2026-27 school year, we need to know if there are changes from you! REMEMBER! You all received a letter at the end of the school year with transportation updates for the 2026-27 school year! You are allowed an AM pick-up and a PM drop-off this year. Students will not be permitted to ride a different bus in the morning or get off at a different stop in the PM other than their designated AM and PM stops.
What we need to know:
- If your child needs to be picked up or dropped off at a different location from last year.
- If your child switched daycare
- If your child did not ride the bus last year, but needs to this year
- If your child does not need the bus to stop at your house at all this year to pick your child up or to drop your child off

As we prepare to welcome students back for another outstanding school year, I want to share an important update regarding a new Indiana law that will impact all students beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.
To comply with this new state law, Westview School Corporation will implement a bell-to-bell personal device expectation. From the start of the school day until dismissal, students' personal wireless devices must be powered off, stored away, and inaccessible throughout the instructional day. This expectation is designed to reduce distractions, increase student engagement, and promote meaningful interactions among students and staff.
This expectation applies to all personal electronic devices, including:
*Cell phones
*Smartwatches
*Tablets
*Gaming devices
*Any other personal communication or internet-capable device
One of the most significant changes is that personal devices will no longer be permitted during lunch or passing periods. Please note that this expectation applies only to personal devices and does not include school-issued technology that students use for learning in their classrooms.
Attached to this letter is a graphic that outlines the new bell-to-bell personal device expectations. We encourage you to review it with your child before the start of school. The graphic provides a clear overview of how this new law will be implemented at Westview and answers many of the common questions families may have.
If you need to communicate with your child during the school day, we ask that you contact your child's school office. Our staff will ensure that important messages are delivered promptly. Likewise, if a student needs to contact a parent or guardian during the school day, they may do so through the school office.
As required by Indiana law, exceptions will be made for students whose personal devices are needed for documented medical purposes, safety concerns, translation services, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Section 504 Plans, or other administrator-approved needs.
Over the past several years, schools across Indiana have seen the positive impact of limiting personal device use during the school day. Students report fewer distractions, stronger relationships with classmates and teachers, and greater engagement in classroom learning. We are confident that these new expectations will further support a safe, focused, and positive learning environment for every Westview student.
Our building administrators and staff have worked together to ensure these expectations are implemented consistently across all Westview schools. Additional building-specific procedures and reminders will be shared with families prior to the first day of school.
Your partnership plays a vital role in the success of this initiative. We appreciate your support in discussing these expectations with your child before school begins. By working together, we can create classrooms where students are fully engaged, connected with one another, and focused on learning.

CONGRATS to our quarter 4 award winners! This semester we also congratulated several 4th grade boys who read 20 books from the Red & Gold program, and our students who had perfect attendance all year!
Thanks to the LaGrange County Sheriff's and Prosecutor's Office, Parkview, REMC, and the Shipshewana Fire Dept for our 4th grade Health & Safety Day! Thank you also to the parent volunteers! Students enjoyed learning and participating in ways to stay healthy and safe. We are so thankful for a community who values educating our children!
Field Day was a hit! ☀️ The kids had a blast running relays, playing games, and enjoying a full day of outdoor fun in beautiful weather. A HUGE thank you to Mr. Hart for his creativity and hard work in making this day so special. Our students had the best time!
Our final ⭐ All Star Spotlight ⭐ of the year goes to Kara Short!
Mrs. Short has been a dedicated 3rd grade teacher at SES for 11 years, and she was once a student at this very school herself!
She truly shines with her creativity. She is always finding fresh, effective ways to manage her classroom while making learning fun and engaging. Mrs. Short isn’t afraid to get a little silly (goose) to bring joy to her students’ day, and it’s clear that teaching is more than just a job to her—it’s her passion!
Thank you, Mrs. Short, for the energy, heart, and dedication you bring every single day. We’re so lucky to have you! 💫
The 4th graders did an absolutely amazing job preparing for and executing their wax museum project! From the very beginning they displayed an impressive level of dedication- diving deep into their research to truly understand the different animals, places, or people they chose to represent. Their hard work was on full display during the event itself, where they showed off their collective knowledge to the students, staff, and their parents. We are so proud of all their hard work!
Our 2nd graders had a blast on their field trip to Science Central yesterday! They spent the day exploring, discovering, and learning in the most hands-on way. It was such a fun experience for everyone!

The 4th graders had an exciting time celebrating Glow Day on Friday! Classrooms were filled with glowing neon colors and activities under black lights. It was a memorable day full of glowing fun for everyone involved!
Happy National Speech Language Pathologist Day! We’re so grateful for Karen Nieves, who works closely with each of her students and meets them right where they are. Her kindness, patience, and fun spirit make a lasting impact every single day. Thank you, Miss Nieves, for all that you do!
Our kindergarteners had a wild time exploring the Fort Wayne Zoo last week! So many smiles, new discoveries, and fun memories 🐾🦒
Our 1st graders took a step back in time this week with a visit to David Rogers Park! The LaGrange County Parks Department shared the fascinating history of David Rogers and the impact he had on our county. Students explored the historic cabins and buildings, imagining what life was like long ago, and even got to try their hand at some colonial-era games. It was a fun and meaningful way to bring history to life!
This past week our 4th graders participated in the "Junior Achievement in a Day" program. Volunteers came to guide our students in real-world concepts like entrepreneurship, career exploration, and smart money management. The lessons were interactive and collaborative. Thank you to the volunteers who made this possible!
Our 3rd graders visited the South Bend Chocolate Company and Howard Park yesterday! They learned about how chocolate is made; how it starts from a cacao bean and ends up as a product in a store! And of course they sampled some sweets!🍫
They also had the opportunity to hike the Continental Divide trail, where they saw buffalo, old Studebaker cars, and even some dinosaur fossils. They ended the day eating lunch and playing at Howard Park!
