3-14-20 COVID-19 Update

Hello Westview Community, March 14, 2020

For those who have shown support towards Westview School Corporation and served as positive role models with your children throughout the past week, thank you. True character reveals itself during these times, and that character is reflected within our students. It takes a village to raise our children and we all make a difference.

We have taken every scenario related to the growing momentum of COVID-19 and sliced it many ways to deliberate an outcome that puts Westview in a position that stays true to ourselves and our academic quality while balancing community safety.

  • Westview will go to school March 16th, 17th, and 18th. We want our community to have time to make necessary arrangements due to the closure of school for an extended time.

  • We will then take off the 10 days before spring break, March 19th to April. 1st.

  • We have scheduled off April 2nd and 3rd for snow-make-up.

  • Spring break is April 6th to 10th.

  • We will then take off the 5 days after spring break too, April 13th to 17th. We will plan on returning to school April 20th.

  • This plan leaves us 5 remaining waiver days and we may use them. Due to the day to day changes in this situation, we want to make sure the use of those 5 days will be necessary. This plan gives us a four and a half week break to then reassess our circumstances. Plans could be altered based on any mandate by our governor, IDOE, or IDOH.

  • To summarize, Westview will be closed from March 19th until April 17th with a projected return date of April 20th.  You should be prepared for all circumstances concerning our return date and finishing school.

To keep our community safest, we encourage you to stay at home and not to travel based on conditions. Practice your everyday preventive measures of hygiene. Your travel and movements in the coming weeks will expose you and our community to the spread of this COVID-19 virus. The duplicity within the thought process of keeping our children at home and then ourselves traveling around, should give everyone caution and pause.

We will reassess the situation every week going forward. Our circumstances at Westview and within our community will change week by week.

It is an absolute honor to be a part of Westview. Take care.

Sincerely,

Dr. Randall Miller
